The porosity meter is designed based on the Boyle's law two-chamber method. Gas is input into a reference chamber of known volume under a predetermined base pressure. Then, the gas in the reference chamber diffuses into the sample chamber of known volume containing the rock sample. The equilibrium pressure decreases, from which the volume of rock sample particles can be calculated. Then, the pore volume is calculated by subtracting the particle volume from the total volume of the rock sample.
